SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability
We are not a pure clean technology player. In our projects, we align the BlueCap Hydro Technology with sustainable economic activities, whilst adapting to the effects of climate change. We contribute to a number of UN Development Goals and always work together with local communities.
In all our projects, together with our partners, contractors, and suppliers, we adhere to:
IHA Hydropower Sustainability Standards
IHA Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol
IFC Performance Standards on Social and Environmental
Sustainability
World Bank Group Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines
EIB Guidelines on Hydropower Development
Mission
The Filipino word agam-agam largely means foreboding, which connotes doubt and uncertainty. But agam also translates to the root, a memory of the past, and the ability to think. At BlueCap Hydro, our goal is to include hydroelectric generation capacity in irrigation and water conveyance infrastructures, and preferably deliver the electricity directly to farmers, agricultural cooperatives, irrigation associations, water companies and local communities. We make sure that local stakeholders are enabled to do the operational management of the realized micro hydropower plants in a sustainable way.
Vision
Inefficiencies exist in many agricultural and water conveyance value chains, leading to sub-optimal risk and return profiles for water organizations and/or agricultural communities and organizations. Several actors in these value chains may benefit from application(s) of the BlueCap Hydro Technology, leading to an increase of the overall earning capacity of the connected actors in the value chain. Cost savings, especially related to electricity, irrigation and water bills, can be used to invest in the performance of irrigation pumps, creation of water storage facilities and post harvesting facilities. This will lead to an
increase in agricultural production, a reduction of losses and a higher product quality. Furthermore, BlueCap Hydro allows for a fairer profit distribution in the value chain in a sustainable way, while also adapted to climate change. We develop improvements in water-related value chain projects by making use of our proprietary owned Micro Hydropower Technology, in cooperation with local communities, with the aim to contribute to multiple UN SDGs. With a holistic approach, we also aim to realize a sustainable risk and return profile for agricultural communities, water organizations and renewable energy producers.
Bluecap Hydro’s Philosophy
At BlueCap Hydro, part of our Philosophy is to promote, on both a micro and macro level, the various connected actors in the rice and agricultural production value chain and in the drink and wastewater value chain. The collaboration between them brings substantial socio-economic benefits along by applying the BlueCap Hydro Technology. With the realized cost reductions, it becomes possible to invest in production capacity and product quality, where BlueCap Hydro together with local financial institutions can also provide long-term financial solutions.
